I've been a biker for 49 years.
Started out on my Aunt and Uncle's Harley
at the age of 3 when they put me between them on the saddle and took me
for a ride. I was hooked. My Mother never forgave her sister and
brother-in-law for that. Next came a Honda 50 that belonged to my best
friend, went from there to stealing my brother's Honda 175 street bike.
Darn thing didn't hill climb worth sh_t. The pegs tended to bend a
little too easy for my style of riding. My next bike was a Yamaha 250
Enduro (both street and dirt) not much good for either. I managed to
tear all of the skin off my left arm in a dirt track race with that one.
I decided right then and there that riding on the street was better for
me so I bought my first "big bike", a 1973 Yamaha 750 Twin. This
lasted
into my first marriage but not to the end of it. When we got divorced I
swore I'd never be without a bike again. I had a few more Jap bikes
before I finally found my way back to the Harleys that started the love
of my life. At the end of my second marriage I, with he help of my
awesome girlfriend, Sue, picked out "Black Magic" my 2000
Heritage
Softtail Classic.
I've been involved with group riding for about 15 years, been through
several Experienced Rider Courses and have lead groups of riders all
over the Western U.S. Sue and I have been in HOG since 1999 and in GNW
Hog since January 2001. We've both been chapter officers. I've been Asst
Director and now am Asst Head Road Captain. Sue has been both Activities
Director and Membership Coordinator. I've been a Road Captain almost
from the start in GNW. We've been to Sturgis once and are going again
this year. The only difference is that Sue will be riding her own bike .
It's a long ride but I'm sure she will do great. There goes my Co-pilot,
off on her own bike.
