Lance MacKay My first bike was a 20” Schwin with playing cards in the spokes circa early 1950. Jump ahead to the summer of 1960. My neighbors had a 450 single BSA and a Matchless. I used to hang around a bike shop that has a new Norton 650 Atlas on display. Does that tell you a little about my roots? I got my first motorcycle and it was a DKW, used of course. I think it was something like $50. at the time. I got my first ticket that summer. You will never guess what for. Riding without a license. I was only 14 years old at the time. Yes I was too young but I was riding to work after school. Yes I started working at 12 and it has never stopped. Needless to say I had to wait till I was 15 ½ to ride again. I must have driven my folks nuts. Jump ahead to 1963 and I got a Honda 305 Scrambler. Great bike even if it was used. I broke 3 crank shafts and a gear set that summer doing wheelie burnouts. Yah I guess I was a bit of a rebel at heart. Jump ahead to 1972 after I got out of the service and finished college and I got my first new bike. A 1972 Norton 850 Commando, bright metallic red and she was a real road burner. The speedo went to 140 mph and I tried to peg it many times. Then we go to the fall of 1998 and I got my Sportster. Lillith was her name, she was fast sleek and vibrated. I rode her for a year and put on nearly 15000 miles. Then came the Twin Cam Harleys. I was in lust for a Dyna Wide Glide and Lillith was replaced by a new 1999 FXDWG. She was all silver and beautiful. She got a new cam, carb and pipes plus went 20000 miles the first year. Talk about highway cruising, she was a cruising machine. That fall I was thinking about a new HD custom paint job for her and I saw the bike I have now on the show room floor. A Purple and Silver 2001 Deuce, Within a couple hours the trade was made. Since then I have put on over 70000 miles. She (Phaedra) has gotten a lot of chrome up grades as well as engine modifications and runs perfectly. She has seen the Grand Canyon, Sturgis and a lot of pavement in between. Now you know my ride story. My RC history began in 1999 with my FXDWG. I went through the new RC program, even doing the Experienced Rider Course riding 2 up. It was tough but I had the only Harley there and I was the only one riding 2 up. Made the sport bikers jealous by the end of the day. Since then I have lead numerous rides, from 1/2 mile to the Buzz Inn to the Grand Canyon and Sturgis. I like to cruise and smell the roses. I have also served as Chapter Director for 2 years plus webmaster for 3+ years.
