2010 RIDE Schedule as of Jan 14, 2010

RIDE BRIEFING IS 15 MINUTES BEFORE DEPARTURE TIME.  PLEASE ATTEND FOR SAFETY & GROUP RIDING INFORMATION.  Reminder: Scheduled rides maybe cancelled due to unsafe riding conditions.

Jan 1st: Holiday Hangover - 10:00 AM Departure Doc (Primary), and Dave (Sweep) This year the ride on the first will be a little different.  It will happen no matter what the weather.  Come rain, nor sleet, not even snow will delay the ride on 01/01/10.  This year if the weather is bad please come in your cage and let’s enjoy a New Years Breakfast together.  2 Years ago we had around 50 bikes show up and had a nice ride to Woodinville.  This year regardless of the weather let’s get together, wish each other a Happy New Year and enjoy each others company as we welcome another new beginning.  If the weather is good, please ride your scooter but no matter what show up and lets start the New Year off together.

Jan 17 (Sun): Kripsy Kremes 10:00 AM HDS Departure – Linda (Primary), and Joyce (Sweep)The donuts at Kripsy Kremes in Issaquah are my favorite Depending on the weather, you can come by bike or in your cage but if it’s raining at the start of the ride, I’m driving in my cage but either way a nice little trip to Kripsy Kremes for a cup of joe and Kripsy Kremes with my friends might just be a nice way to start the day on a cold, raining January day.We can talk about where we want to ride when the weather gets better.

Feb 1st (Mon): Board Meeting

Feb 6th (Sat):  Ride to Conway Pub - Dan (RCIT), Mark (Primary), and Dee (Sweep) On last year's November ride...we got to ride through blowing leaves and watch the seasons change right before our eyes. This ride will be along the shorelines in Mukilteo, Everett, the Tulalip reservation, Kayak Point and Warm Beach. Then on to Stanwood and up through farm country to Conway and LaConner.  The ride will end at the famous Conway Pub and Eatery, often described as a "true biker bar".  Great food and oysters are worthy of making this place the "other" Oyster Run.  Plan your own stops on the way home at various Casinos or the Tulalip Outlet stores for some early holiday shopping.

Feb 11th:  Due Date for receiving RC applications for training ride – provide to Linda or to any RC at Chapter meetings or on any ride prior to this date.  (Training meeting and ride date to be announced at March Chapter meeting.)

May 1st (Sat):  Marionwood Run – As we invite Eastside to participate in the Bunny Run annually, they have again invited us to participate in the Marionwood Run.  Marionwood is an old folks home and those with sidecars and trikes are encouraged to attend as the residents like to ride around the parking lot on the bikes and some are hoisted onto and into.  We have in the past, had a chapter ride to participate in this event - what a blast!  These are people who look forward to us visiting them for months!

May 16th (Sun):  Joyce, WA – Meet at HDS Don (Primary), Earl (RCIT) and Mike (Sweep) "Where's Joyce", you might ask? Well, come along and find out! We'll be taking in much of what our fine state has to offer: a ferry ride across the Sound  (from Edmonds to Kingston) where you can catch many a great view, one of which is of downtown Seattle with the magnificent Mt. Rainier in the background, a trip across a floating bridge, scenic mountain views, valleys, rivers, quaint little communities, and a secret little road that offers it's own little surprises! This is a rather long ride - about 100 miles in one direction. There will be a few miles traveling at highway speeds, but they are in the minority. The ride will end in Joyce with lunch at the Blackberry Cafe at around 2:00 PM, so be sure to bring a snack to tide you over. Definitely another one you want to make sure you have your camera with you for, and don't forget our departure times from HDS are now 9:00 AM.

Constitution is located among the 5200 acres of Moran State Park on Orcas Island. History - Mount Constitution was named by Charles Wilkes during the Wilkes Expedition of 1838-1842. Wilkes' named Orcas Island "Hull Island", after Commodore Isaac Hull, the commander of the USS Constitution, who won fame after capturing the British warship Guerriere in the War of 1812. Like many of the names Wilkes' gave, the name "Hull" was replaced with "Orcas" by Henry Kellett in 1847 while reorganizing the British Admiralty charts. The three-masted heavy frigate USS Constitution was nicknamed "old Ironsides" and it is assumed that Mount Constitution was named after this vessel.
