2009 Ride and Event Calendar

Chapter activities are conducted primarily for the benefit of H.O.G. chapter members. There are three categories of activities, all activities are identified as follows:

    Closed events are those chapter events which are open to chapter members and one guest per member.

    Member events are events that are open only to H.O.G. members

    Open events are those chapter events which are open to chapter members, national H.O.G. members and other guests as desired.

If you are interested in becoming a H.O.G. chapter member, contact Great Northwest Harley Owners Group.

Chapter Rides are usually scheduled for the first Saturday and the third Sunday of each month.  There are exceptions, so check the HOG Call newsletter or visit this website for updates and details.  

Note: Non-GNWHOG chapter events that may be of interest to members are occasionally listed here and are shown: italicized and in this color.

Note:  RC = Road Captain, RCIT = Road Captain in Training

P&P are Prince and Princess rides sponsored by LOH.  These are skills workshop type rides, usually in a parking lot where we won't run into cars and drivers who don't understand. P&P is for all riders. Skills include emergency stops, s- l- o- w ride (no feet down) circles (turns) or any skill you feel needs to be improved on. As weather improves we may change when and where we go.

January 2009

Jan 18 - Sun - Chapter Ride - Orcas Island or South Sound Dealer T-shirt Ride - 10:00 am HDofS Departure
Mark T (RCIT) and Mike (Primary) want to take you to Orcas Island.  This will be a full day ride so just come prepared with warm clothes & rain gear and be ready to have some fun.  There will be a lunch stop somewhere but bring a warm drink & snacks for the road.  If the weather dictates a different type of ride, Mark and Mike will take you to the HD Dealers in Tukwila, Tacoma and Olympia.  Which ever route they go, sounds like a fun day.

Jim (RCIT), Dee (Primary), and Dave (Sweep) will take you and your sweetie on a ride.  There will be a romantic stop for lunch around mid-day.

Brian (Primary) and Mark T (Sweep) will be taking you to one of the local Casino’s for a little gambling and lunch.  Even if the weather is a bit nasty and cold, this would be a fun destination for some laughs and time with some Harley friends, and don’t forget your quarters!

Mar 7 - Sat - Chapter Ride - March Madness - 10:00 am HDofS Departure - Mark N (RCIT), Rick (Primary), and Ron (Sweep).  This will be the back roads to Stanwood by the way of Olympic View Dr to Mukilteo Speedway to Marine Drive and at Stanwood we stop to fuel up at Starbucks. Then we head west to Camano Island and do a full loop around the island.  Just before we leave the island, we'll stop for lunch around 1:30 or 2 o'clock at the Camano Inn.

Mar 15^th:  St. Patt’s Day Ride – 10:00 AM HDS Departure - Dee (Primary)  Dress in Green and get out the shamrocks!  A loop around the blarney stone is guaranteed as GNW HOG wanders the Irish mores of Snohomish and King County in search of an Irish meal.  No freeways and yes to a twist and a turn.   We’ll be playing some poker on this run too - $5.00 a hand with a high and low winner splitting the pot.  That is poker Harley Style, with your odometer.  Prize for the favorite Irish lyric and or toast at our meal.  Until then, may the Leprechauns be with you.

Apr 5 - Sun - Chapter Ride - Annual GNW Bunny Run – Meet at HDS – time and destination to follow.
This is a rain or shine event, bring a Bunny (or scarf or dew rag) to give to a child.  If they seem more interested in your motorcycle than the Bunny, that’s ok, after you’ve gone, they will remember “who” gave them that bunny and every detail about that motorcycle you were riding.  This is a ride you really don’t want to miss!

May 2009

May 2^nd (Sat):  Poop and Pansy Ride – Susan (Primary) and Doc (Sweep) will be heading south this year instead of our usual route up north into the Skagit Valley.  The ride is scheduled a bit later than usual this year in May so we will be visiting the Weyerhauser Rhododendron and Bonzai Gardens in Federal Way.  As things stand now - I could change my mind - we will take the freeway to get there, which should take about 1 - 1.5 hours.  We can spend as much time as people want wandering the gardens, but I figure an hour or 2 should be sufficient for most of us.  After the garden visit, we will head into Auburn for lunch. We will come home up Hwy 18 to Snoqualmie then through the valley to Duvall, winding our way to Maltby, where the ride will officially end.  I figured from that point people should be able to find their way home, and if not, I will direct you.  The ride will last pretty much all day.  If people have an urge to get home after visiting the gardens they can always leave the ride and hop back on the freeway.  There is a $5 admission fee to the gardens.  However, if you come to the pre-ride talk in the morning with $5 in cash, we can collect it all before we leave and pay as a group when we get there, which is what reduces the cost.  I encourage you to be on time for the pre-ride talk at 8:45 because will leave promptly at 9.

….. This is the annual Sue Ames Memorial Crazy Helmet Ride and it departs rain or shine.  This ride gives everyone a chance to exhibit their creative and silly side while remembering our lost sister.  Be prepared to get stared, laughed at and pointed at by passing motorists and pedestrians.  It will bring smiles to your face and there’s.  It’s always a lot of fun but last year there were quite a few coffee stops needed due to inclement weather but no worries - it's just a ton of fun.

Reminder:  The GNW Hog Chapter offers rides on the 1^st Saturday & 3^rd Sunday of each month except the 3^rd Sunday in December.  Scheduled rides may be cancelled due to unsafe riding conditions.
